Shastrokt (Vedic) Importance : Ayurveda suggests to cleanse body and its various parts. Cleansing of mouth of ‘mukh shuddhi’ is most important. Mukha shuddhi is described as cleaning the teeth or ‘danta dhavan’. Bitter (kaduva), acrid (teekha) and astringent (Kashaya) juice should be used to clean teeth. Herbs containing these juices are – saunth, kaali mirch, peepal, sendha namak, etc as mentioned in Sushrut Samhita. Churna or mix of all these aushadhis is called ‘dant shodhan churna’ or ‘dashasanskar churna’ or ‘dant dhaavan’.
